Centel Commercial 1989

Centel (Central Telephone & Utilities Corporation) was a major U.S. telecommunications company founded in 1914 that provided local telephone, long-distance, and early cellular services primarily in rural and mid-sized markets. As one of the largest independent phone companies outside the Bell System, Centel expanded rapidly into wireless communications during the 1980s, building valuable cellular assets. In 1988, Centel merged with Sprint, a move that strengthened Sprint’s local and wireless footprint, after which the Centel name was retired and its operations were absorbed into Sprint, with its legacy ultimately becoming part of today’s T-Mobile US.
